THE RIVER is a visual and sound Installation, created by artist Christina Nakou under the invitation of the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
The project comments on the critical issue of climate change while bringing together Contem- porary Art and the Museum’s large collection of roman mosaics. The presentation of the project will be accompanied by other events such as performances, lectures and art programs.
Pondering on climate change and on the terrifying consequences of Storm Daniel, that recently caused catastrophic flooding in the Mediterranean the project aims at manifesting the universal character of this critical issue. Under this perspective the project is calling for synergies in order to be presented in other cities, viewing the flow of water as a land of collaboration and social connectivity.
Christina Nakou has been invited by the American Academy in Rome to research on her project as a Visiting Artist in the Visitng Artist / Visiting Scholar Program, for a period of 6 weeks starting on January 15th 2023.
